If you want to determine the value of your blackjack hand, you should add together all the values of your cards. According to the official blackjack rules, jacks, queens and kings are always worth 10 points each. Aces are generally worth either 1 point or in some cases 11 points, which depends on what serves your blackjack hand better. Cards are usually numbered from 2 and through 10. These cards are worth their face value. This means that a four is always worth 4 points. Now, the question lies in how to determine the best hand in blackjack. The rule says that the best hand in blackjack is determined by a 2 card hand and it should have a value of 21. This best hand should consist of an Ace and another card that is worth 10 points.
Rules of blackjack suggest that a game of blackjack should begin with all the players placing their bets. You should place your bet in time before any of the cards are dealt in blackjack. After that you will receive two cards that face up on the table. In blackjack, it is the dealer who takes two cards as well, but he places one of the cards on the table facing up and the other card facing down. It is at this point of time when you should decide whether you want to stand or hit by checking your cards and the dealer's only one exposed card. The dealer deals an additional card to you, so that the value of your hand increases in a situation when you hit in blackjack. But if your hand is too low and you think that you cannot win, you should hit. Be careful while hitting, as the rule says that you lose if you break 21. You can only stand when you are satisfied with your hand. While you are standing, it is time for the dealer to reveal his card that is faced down. He must hit in a situation, when his 2 card hand gets lower than 16. If your hand is higher than that of the dealer at the end of the game without breaking 21, it is you who wins and get paid 1:1.
