Caribbean poker

Knowing the Caribbean poker rules

Please do not mistake Caribbean poker to be like any other normal poker game, although it is one of its derivatives. The basic idea of the game is to play against the bank or the house, as it is called, instead of playing against normal individual players. Before starting off with the game, every individual must put in an ante amount, as required by the table limits that you are playing on. Like most other poker games, five cards are dealt out to each player, which may come from multiple decks or any shuffling machine.

Caribbean poker rules must be carefully understood before moving on with the game, as they are quite different from the original game of poker. As the game is also called Caribbean stud poker, it is normal for us to refer them as Caribbean stud rules also, which should be followed under all circumstances. They may be summarized in the following manner:

Every player would be placing his bet on the particular hand he gets, which is just one for every player playing against the house. Nobody is allowed to stake or hold on the account of having multiple hands.

It must be noted that the players may raise their ante only by the double, than what they had called in the first place. This is known as the "call bet" and must be done, once the player has seen both the first card of his own as well as the houses. If anybody calls "surrender", all his bets are won by the house automatically and the decision cannot be reversed.

If anybody ever wishes to go about playing the Progressive Jackpot, then he must insert his $1 bet into the slot and check for the Indicator Light to be on.

After dealing five cards, faced down the players would be allowed to flip one only and view the rank of the card. However, every player must keep the rank of the card to himself, instead of sharing it with the fellow players around. Each individuals hand remains secret to him and cannot be communicated to others in any form. If this ever happens, the cards dealt would be declared as dead hand and all the bets that have been made would be forfeited.

If ever improper amount of cards have been dealt out to players, it would be considered to be a "dead hand" for that particular player only.

The person, who would be commanding as the casino or table supervisor, would have the final say regarding any matter that is under speculation.

As far as misdealing is concerned, it must be noted that only if the dealer deals out four cards to every other player, can he deal another single card to them. Under any other situation of misdealing, the hands would be considered to be void and a re-shuffling would commence.

It is necessary for the players to keep all the cards of their hand, under supervision of the dealer present there. Another interesting fact is that once the players have seen their set of cards and placed them facing down on the table again, they are not supposed to touch them further.

Finally at the time of showdown, certain rules are followed:

  • You can win your bet, along with the ante amount, if the house does not produce an A-K or even better cards.

  • Even if the house does produce an A-K or further better cards, you may win considering that your hand is better than that of the house, according to the poker card rankings. In such situations the bank gives an equal amount of the ante placed, along with odds that may be put down in the following manner corresponding to your bet:

    - An even distribution, if you have a pair or any higher card to claim
    - When you get two pairs, it is in the manner of 2-1
    - Having 3 of a kind will get you 3-1 of the amount
    - For any straights that you have, it goes up to 4-1
    - If you get a flush, then the odds are 5-1
    - Making a full house would get you 7-1
    - Even better if you make a 4 of a kind stand, getting you 20-1
    - It adds up to 50-1, if you have a straight flush in your hand
    - For the royal flush, you can consider yourself to claim 100-1

  • However, if your cards are lower than the ones with the House, you end up losing your ante amount and the call bet at the same time.

Similarly for the Progressive Jackpot that you play you may win the 100% of the progressive meter, if you get a royal flush. But with that of straight flush, you get only 10%. The money offered for the 4-of-a-kind, full house and flush, may vary depending upon the type of payouts that is being played on.
