Rules Of Pai Gow Poker: The Simple And Easy-To-Follow Methods

Pai Gow Poker is a recognized casino game, which is based on Pai Gow, a Chinese Domino game. It has emerged as the Americanized version of the game and is of comparatively slower pace than other casino games. The bets in the game are coupled with many ties.

Objective of the game

The objective of the game is to create two strong poker hands when the bet is made across the dealer, out of the seven cards provided.

Rules of Pai Gow poker

Making the needed wager marks the initiation of the game. Around seven players can participate in this casino game. One joker included in 52 cards is used for playing the game. The joker is used for the completion of flush, straight or straight flush. It's basically a wild card, which is basically used as an ace.

Dice or random number generator is used to decide, which player would be the first one to be assigned the cards.
The player has to honestly play against other respective players with each deal. But, putting stakes is important before marking the commencement of the game.

The dealers cannot look into their cards while the players have this option. After being allotted the cards, the players have to thereby divide the cards into two respective hands, which are:

  • 2 card hand

  • 5 card hand

When the setting process goes on, the 2 card hand could not be more in value when compared with the 5 card hand. In case, it's not the scene, the 5 card hand and the 2 card hand will be considered a foul.

The values of the 5 card hand are similar to the ones played in poker. But, there is one single exception. The A-2-3-4-5 happens to be highest type of second degree in case of straight flush or straight, with the range in between the K-Q-J-10-9 and A-K-Q-J-10. The highest stand includes 5 aces, which automatically dominates over a straight flush. As far as the hands with the other two cards are taken into consideration, any kind of pair is enough, in case they are unmatched.
Apart from these, not further combinations are allowed in Pai gow poker rules.

The Pai gow house rules clearly inform that the player has to make sure that the 5 card hand is greater and stronger than the 2 card hand. In case, 2 aces make the 2 card hand, the 5 card hand has to be better and stronger. Any player discussing about his hands with his co-players will be immediately dismissed from the game.
The 7 cards of the dealers are exposed when all the players keep their cards down and ready themselves for the coming bet. After the exposure of the dealers cards, the players are not allowed to look back at their cards. After revealing his cards, the dealer too has to arrange the seven cards in two groups of 5 card hand and 2 card hands.
The result depends on the comparison between the cards. The 5 card hand of the player is compared with that of the dealer. In the similar manner, the 2 card hand of the dealer is compared with the 2 card hand of the players.

Payoff rules

The rules for payoff in the rules of Pai Gow are as follows
Player's stake is won by the dealer if he conquers with both the hands.

There is no exchange of money when one hand is won by the dealer and another hand is won by the player
The amount at stake is totally won by the player, if both the hands are stronger.

In case, the hands face a tie, the victory is of the dealer. This is one of the house advantages in Pai Gow Poker.

Dragon hand

Dragon hand is also dealt by the dealer in some cases. This dragon hand can be assumed by any other player as well. But, then the player has to play with two different positions rather than sticking to just one.

Banking

The banking opportunity would be rotated on the table, so that every player gets a fair chance. Though those players, who do not wish to bank, would be skipped in this process. In some of the casinos, most of which are not so well recognized, this procedure is followed in a zig zag pattern. In case, no one accepts to bank, the offer once again rests with the dealer. No matter how many players are present, any single player would be provided with the opportunity to bank only once in 14 hands. If a player is interest to bank, he needs to pay the winning bets which have taken place in between the dealer and the different players.

In a nutshell, though Pai Gow Poker might be a slow gamble to indulge in, it's always bustling with money making opportunities.
